This week we discussed Jesus feeding the multitude from just a few loaves of bread and a few fish. How amazing is He! We discussed how the little boy did not think that he could be of any help but after feeling so guilty for sneaking away from his family he decided to share and saw how even a little can go a long way to help others. We discussed ways that we also can help others and donated food to our food bank at church. We also read a lot of food related books and of course cooked some yummy food along the way!
We made pancakes after reading "If You give a Pig a Pancake" and "Curious George Makes Pancakes"
My little busy bee's whipping up some muffins!
We read "It looked like Spilt Milk" and made our own cloud creations.
Enjoying our yummy muffins as we read "If you Give a Moose a Muffin."
We discussed how grateful we are for never having to go hungry. We have a Dada who works hard to provide for our family and a Lord who takes care of every need we have. We spent some time in prayer thanking God for ALL that He provides.
Painting with some veggies
Our own baskets of bread and fish
Ethan Jay wanted a picture of him walking and holding his basket. It didn't turn out quite so well but loved his idea!
I had also just planned on them glueing them onto the front of the paper plate basket like Evie Kaye did, but oh no, when I said basket, he envisioned a basket and that's what he had to have. So we had to add a back onto it so that he could place his loaves of bread and fish inside. Sometimes it is just a bit exhausting keeping up with this one but I love his heart and his imagination. He challenges me and helps me grow just a bit more each day. Love him!
We love Maurice Sendak's "Chicken Soup with Rice" book and have really been reviewing our months of the year with this book and of course had to make a little chicken soup with rice to go along with it!
Must be yummy!
One of my favorite's is Stone Soup and the kids love it as well. Going out and collecting the stones and adding in the vegetables and bits one at a time is so much fun!
We also read "Little Red Hen" and how none of her friends wanted to help her make bread. Well, we made our own bread and we all pitched in and worked together as a team to make it. We reviewed the steps of harvesting the wheat to make the flour and used our flour from Otterton Mill.
Checking on our soup
And our yummy meal of stone soup and homemade bread! Delicious!
What would a food study be without "The Gingerbread Boy!"
The kids LOVE the story and were even more delighted to make their very own humongous gingerbread boy and decorate it!
I'm sure glad that ours didn't get up and run away!
We also had so much fun making our own meatballs after we read the story "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs." The kids also got to predict and draw their own meal to blow in. I loved seeing their creativity and of course they choose a few of their favorite food items for their meals.
After our dinner, we all sat down and watched "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs" movie.
We have also been trying to try and few new food items and Mango was one of them. The kids loved it, especially when they got to use toothpicks to eat it! Fun!
What a great yummy week!
