From Caterpillar to Butterfly

We received a very special delivery in the mail. 

Caterpillars.  Teeny tiny caterpillars.

Here they are about a week old, getting bigger!

And about 11 days they formed their chrysalis'.

And we put them into our butterfly net.

Around Day 19 they started hatching out of their chrysalis'.

Look at that beautiful butterfly!  Such a true miracle!

Ethan Jay ordered the lifecycle of a butterfly with these plastic figures.

And time to set them free!

Saying goodbye!  Ethan Jay even made them a farewell card!

We also did several other butterfly projects.  We of course read The Very Hungry Caterpillar and made our own butterflies that turned into caterpillars.

Coloring a coffee filter that will turn up later in our project.

And spraying it with water for it to spread.

They made beautiful caterpillars.

And then we helped them make their cocoons.

The next morning the kids found that their butterflies were emerging.

What a neat project!
